Joelle Pineau
VP of AI Research, Meta
Joelle Pineau is the Vice President of AI Research and Co-Managing Director of FAIR (Fundamental AI Research) at Meta, based in Montreal, Canada. She is also a full professor at McGill University's School of Computer Science and the co-director of the Reasoning and Learning Lab.
At Meta, Pineau leads fundamental AI research focusing on planning and learning in complex, partially observable domains. Her research spans reinforcement learning, natural language processing, robotics, and healthcare applications of AI. She is a leading advocate for reproducibility in AI research and has championed open science practices across the field.
Pineau holds a PhD from Carnegie Mellon University and has published extensively on reinforcement learning, dialogue systems, and clinical applications of AI. She is a Fellow of the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AAAI) and has served on the boards of major AI journals and conferences.
